It generally takes us a couple of days to upgrade and test our installer scripts so we should have 1.5.3 available for new installations in the early part of next week.

We do not automatically patch Joomla because it would break a lot of websites. Every customer has access to their source files so we have absolutely no idea what changes they have made.

To give you an idea of how complex this would be eZ Systems provide a similar service for the eZ Publish CMS and it costs several thousands pounds per year per website. Every add-on component has to be certified so that they can guarantee it won't break the site when it is automatically patched and even the templates you use have to be coded in a specific way and approved by the eZ developers.

In short, it would be a nightmare! So I'm afraid you will need to patch the website yourself.
